Sun Case ID 64669952 – Network issue

July 22nd, 2005 No comments

Dear Mr. Chris,

Further to our earlier telephone conversation, please find attached a
copy of the netinfo script which when run on the system will gather
information from the system to assist with problem diagnosis. Please run
the script as root user and return the output to me.

As mentioned on the telephone it is essential that both the settings on
the switch and the interface are matched or you will encounter problems.
If auto negotiation is used on the interface it must be used on the
switch also.

The script I mentioned for configuring your interfaces at boot time is
also attached ( S68net-tune ) instructions for installing the script are
below and also in the start of the script.

# 1) cp S68net-tune to /etc/rc2.d
# 2) perform edits on the script as required
# 3) chmod 744 /etc/rc2.d/S68net-tune
# 4) chown root:sys /etc/rc2.d/S68net-tune
# 5) ln /etc/rc2.d/S68net-tune /etc/init.d/net-tune

SCSI Basics – Tech Tips @ Geeks.com

SCSI Basics

The common computer utilizes either ATA or SATA hard drives, as was discussed in this previous Tech Tip. There is another standard for connecting hard drives which doesn’t find its way into too many personal computers, but is quite prominent in servers and high-end work stations: SCSI.

SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface, and if you don’t want to pronounce each letter individually, it’s OK to call it “skuzzy.” SCSI, like ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) or SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), can be used for connecting more than just hard drives to a computer system, and some of the other peripherals that can support SCSI include tape drives, optical drives, printers, and scanners.

This Tech Tip will take a look at a few basic features of SCSI, mostly as related to hard drives, and how ATA and SATA drives may compare.
