Racing Live for Apples iPhone and iTouch

April 20th, 2009 4 comments

Racing Live is just fun and exciting game for Apple’s iPod Phone and iPod Touch devices. It is an online game where you need to race other opponents, collect money for races and just manage money flow from all those events. From getting all the money from different sources then you can invest in buying like a garage or a parking lot, or even a car wash or condo and then have constant money flow to offset costs of maintenance of those fancy racing cars. You have option of depositing money in the bank which takes 10% of the money that you do deposit as a deposit fee, that’s not bad as it seems since if you just keep cash you can loose all of that in racing matches and just have nothing left. So it is a seriously quite addictive and exciting online multi player game. Give it a try, you will not regret it. I just yet to figure out how to get Police Cruiser as so many players already have it. I just got to level 11th, this game is starting to get quite more difficult as before I was able to win races, not I am starting to loose quite a lot of them. Strategy in this game is the key and you have to be quite sneaky about it. Ah, you can also build up teams of different drivers, so if you like just invite me with this special code RPU1P.

Oracle buy Sun

April 19th, 2009 No comments

I knew something was cooking, when IBM announcement was made SUN’s stock jumped like a rocket, then when deal was off, at least from talk perspective stock did retreat, but please don’t tell me people did not know somehow that something else is cooking, how come stock did not go down to previous levels or lower as it usually does after such situation? Well inside traders knew something that others (such as myself) had no idea, I could only speculate something was out in the air as stock only did drop to over $6. So now another announcement is made and look at this. Stock went back to over $9. Interesting, I hate those inside traders, those people who makes millions or even billions by just having access to the right information that others don’t.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 20, 2009 — Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) and Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $7.4 billion, or $5.6 billion net of Sun’s cash and debt.

www.sun.com/third-party/global/oracle/index.jsp

This certainly could be quite interesting in development and see how will it play. Maybe Oracle can keep most of SUN’s items as comparing to IBM it was obvious that there would be to much in common and redundant and they would not carry forward with all technologies. Wonder what will happen to MySQL since Oracle has its own DB, maybe they will keep it? I certainly hope so as I really do enjoy mysql myself, its easy and small, and I certainly hope Oracle will not destroy it by packing to much crap on top of it as they did it to Oracle (Remember Oracle when it was like 8 or even 9i? How small it was and how fast it was? Look at it now at 10g and 11, how massive, how much disk space and memory it does require to just run it or start it. At my current job when we do not have enough swap space allocated to global zone we cannot even start some Oracle instances because on a start it does require swap space… why? swap should not even be used. Anyway so I hope Oracle will not just destroy it… :) But its exciting news I think…

when trying to remove directory I get the following error: cannot determine if this is an ancestor of the current working directory events

April 17th, 2009 No comments

I have solaris 10 and I have test user, I have then direcotry created as events, when I do rm -r events I get the following error:
rm: cannot determine if this is an ancestor of the current working directory events
rm -rf does not even show me anything but directory is not being removed

One of the solutions that I’ve found in my case was to change user to root even though the owner of the diretories or files is test, of try the following comand:
find . -depth -exec rmdir {} \;

Reinstalling the Boot Loader on Linux Red Hat server

April 16th, 2009 No comments

I had server that rebooted and then was hanging at the GRUB line and was not booting, so I did decide to reinstall grub which seems like it did help. Here is the procedure that I did to get it boot again:

Reinstalling the Boot Loader
In many cases, the GRUB boot loader can mistakenly be deleted, corrupted, or replaced by other operating systems.
The following steps detail the process on how GRUB is reinstalled on the master boot record:
* Boot the system from an installation boot medium (CDROM or DVD)
* Type linux rescue at the installation boot prompt to enter the rescue environment.
* Type chroot /mnt/sysimage to mount the root partition.
* Type /sbin/grub-install /dev/sda to reinstall the GRUB boot loader, where /dev/sda is the boot partition.
* Review the /boot/grub/grub.conf file, as additional entries may be needed for GRUB to control additional operating systems.
* Reboot the system.

Done, system working again.

OOMA News: April 13th Outage Information

April 13th, 2009 No comments

So much for having OOMA, its less than a week as I have it and I did go for a vacation for few days and wonder what happend? Well my OOMA service did go down, because I was away I was unable to know that there was outage, my parents got so upset about service and that this never happened before with Verizon land line. Well I would say we got what we did pay for and as with any VoIP its always the case where you do relay on Internet connectivity. In the old days where there was no VoIP phone was always available, if you did not have answering machine, and just phone without external power (no wireless) telephone service was always availble, even when there was a blackout or some kind of power outage. Telephone Companies always had power backups so calling 911 or other service was as easy as just picking up the phone. Nowdays we just take for granted that we will always have power and phone service available. We all do have cell phones, but  we think that they will be always there. What will hppen when any of this will go away and we will not be able to even reach for help? Make sure that you do have battery backup for your cable modem or router, FiOS has its internal power battery which will last few hours.

Anyway here is the message that I’ve receiver from OOMA regarding that outage.
