This year’s Benefits Open Enrollment, the time when you may change your health and welfare benefit plan elections for the coming year, begins today and ends on Wednesday, December 22, 2004.  All of the materials that you will need for open enrollment will be available to you on the Sotheby’s Intranet home page and the Human Resources department home page.

Before you review this package, it is very important that you read the information below regarding benefit plan changes we are making in 2005.  We will be conducting employee benefit meetings on Tuesday, December 14 and Thursday, December 16 at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and on Monday, December 20 at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm and Tuesday, December 21st at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, all in the 8^th Floor Board Room.  Please come to Human Resources or e-mail William Theisen to sign up for a session.  We urge you to attend if you have any questions regarding your benefits.

Solaris, unlike some other Operating Systems, does not ship with a method for creating bootable recovery media. The following procedure is one that I’ve been able to devise after searching for more help on the matter.

In documenting this process, I will first show you how to create a bootable recovery disk. Once that is successful, I’ll describe how to create a bootable CDROM.

Slice 1 – the driver for the recovery
The partition we are going to build is a bit large – 200MB. You could make it smaller by squeezing stuff out, but it is fine for our purposes since the recovery image is generally quite small (less than 100MB for the core install).

Quality settings for the PVR 250/350 can be added by modifying the properties file.

You don’t need to specify all of the parameters for the quality setting; below is the list of the available parameters, their possible values, and their defaults. These are not case sensitive.

QualityName – is the name that will show up in SageRecorder for the Record quality option. Don’t use any spaces or non-alphanumeric characters for the name unless you understand using backslash to do escape sequences.

audiooutputmode – 0 for stereo, 1 for joint, 2 for dual, and 3 for mono. stereo is the default
audiocrc – 0 for off, 1 for on. off is the default
gopsize – 15 and 6 are valid. 15 is the default
videobitrate – in bits/second. 4000000 is the default (4 Mbps)
inversetelecine – 0 is off, 1 is on. default is off
closedgop – 0 is off, 1 is on. default is off
vbr – 0 is off, 1 is on. default is off
outputstreamtype – 0 for Program Stream, 2 for MPEG1 stream, 10 for DVD compliant stream, 11 for VCD compliant stream. Program Stream is the default

width – 720, 480 or 352. 720 is the default (NOTE valid widthxheight combos are 720×480, 480×480, 352×480 and 35×240)
height – 240 or 480. 480 is the default
audiobitrate – in kilobits/second 192, 224, 256, 320, 384. default is 384
audiosampling – 32000, 44100, 48000. default is 48000
peakvideobitrate – in bits/second. This max bitrate when using VBR mode make the videobitrate 1.5x lower see the examples.
